Screenshots that convert
What to put on your first three screenshots, how to write headlines, and common mistakes.
Most people decide within a few seconds and never scroll past the first screenshots. Treat the set like a short pitch, not a manual.
Order
- First image: the promise. What does the app do for me, in one line? Add social proof if you have it (rating, awards, downloads).
- Next two: the key features that make the promise true.
- The rest: supporting features, integrations, personalization, privacy.
Headlines
- 3–6 words, benefits before features: Sleep better tonight beats Sleep tracking.
- Highlight one or two key words with the accent style.
- Make sure the headline is readable at thumbnail size, where most people see it.
Visuals
- Show real, polished app screens with realistic data, not empty states.
- Use one consistent template for the whole set so it reads as a story.
- Use a zoom template (Lens, Callout, Bento) to show small details that get lost on a phone-sized thumbnail.
- Localize screenshots for your biggest markets.
Avoid
- Long sentences and paragraphs of text.
- Claims you can't back up ("#1 app") — both stores can reject them.
- Text too close to the edges of the Google Play feature graphic.
